LARP and I

LARP'ing, also known as Live Action Role Playing, is a type of interactive game where players become a character and act that character out for the length of the game. The game usually is based on a theme or time period, (Fantasy, Medieval, Renaissance, Civil War, Futuristic, etc.) and moderated by a GM (Game Master) who wrote the story or used a pre-written one.

As a youth, I enjoyed games such as Dungeons and Dragons and GURPS (Generic Universal Role Playing System) that inspired the imagination and creativity of myself and my friends. There were no boards. Just character sheets, a map and some really weird shaped dice! As a teacher at a summer camp for exceptionally gifted kids, role playing was added to the curriculum. When camp was over, it was time for my colleague and I to get the staff involved. We played LARP games such a Assassin and "Live D&D" as we called it, in which the entire building was our world of exploration, discovery and fantasy. I created codes to be deciphered, treasures to be found and characters to be interacted with. For two hours each week, it was time for the adults to have fun! Those were good memories.

Later, I got involved in the Entertainment Business which prevented me from making the plunge to join at least one of the many LARP groups that had sprung up over the years. In 2002, decided to produce the NJ Medieval and Fantasy Festival now held in Long Valley, NJ. The goal was to have a LARP group participate as fantasy characters and run a "Quest" for the patrons. It worked very well! The LARP Group was Mystic Realms and I have since become very good friends with their president, Tony Kukal. They actually run their own Fantasy Festival in southern NJ.

Inspired by LARPing, I've created a neat competitive game that incorporates geocahing, cryptology and treasure seeking called, "The Ultimate Scavenger Hunter!"©

LARPing is fun. The costumes are creative, the stories imaginative, the comradery is eternal. My goal is to offer this web site as a resource for new and experienced alike. I think the slogan for my company is very apropos. "Where Reality is Limited Only By Your imagination!"
